A Greenville native, Mr. Sawyer attended East Carolina University. He has completed the three-year Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He has also completed the Management Development Program of the North Carolina School of Banking at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and he has completed the Commercial Lending / Real Estate Schools of the Risk Management Association at East Carolina University. He has been in the banking industry for 23 years. He is a member of Nashville United Methodist Church in Nashville, NC. Mr. Sawyer currently resides in Rocky Mount with his wife, Meredith. He has three children: Christian, David, and Sarah Dunn.
